Chippa United picked up their first win of the season in the DStv Premiership with a 1-0 victory over Cape Town Spurs on Friday evening.

Spurs handed a debut to goalkeeper Neil Boshoff and recalled Clayton Daniels and Morne Nel, while the Chilli Boys brought in Siphelele Luthuli and Baraka Majogoro after losing to Mamelodi Sundowns.

With either side yet to win this season, the match saw a tense start before Spurs launched a threat when Ashley Cupido got wide after connecting to a low pass and forced Chippa goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali to make a save.

The positive spell continued and were unfortunate not to go ahead when Riyaaz Nell slammed a loose ball in the area well off target after managing to find a yard of space.

Chippa were under more pressure and needed a goal-line clearance from Justice Chabalala to deny Khaya Mfecane making the breakthrough on the half-hour mark with a diving header.

The Chilli Boys were ahead against the run of play after Ronaldo Maarman latched onto a route-one and turned Logan Brown to rifle into the bottom-corner in the last five minutes to halftime.

With the second half underway, Spurs coach Shaun Bartlett brought on a double substitution as Asanda Velebayi and Jarrod Moroole came in the search to overturn the contest.

Moroole didn’t wait long to get stuck in after produced a goal-line clearance to deny Maarman profiting from close-range and getting a brace.

The Urban Warriors managed to bounce back after a quiet spell and camp in the opposing half with ball up-field and into the area, but the equaliser remained elusive.

However, the Chilli Boys soaked up all the pressure that came their way and ensured their first win of the season leaving Spurs at the bottom with four consecutive losses.
