A new leak says only Intel Core Ultra 5 and Ultra 7 Meteor Lake processors will be launched later this year. Laptops with the top-spec Core Ultra 9 chips are scheduled for a 2024 launch.

Despite numerous delays and teething issues, Intel finally announced its Meteor Lake line of laptop processors earlier last month. It debuts Intel’s new processor nomenclature with parts such as the Intel Core Ultra 7 155H and Core Ultra 5 125H. A new leak says those are the only two classes of processors that’ll launch initially. Usually, OEMs show off their best products first, and one can’t help but wonder why Intel decided otherwise.

Golden Pig Upgrade, a renowned Weibo/BiliBili leaker, says laptops running top-of-the-line Meteor Lake Ultra 9 processors (Ultra 9 185H) will not be available until 2024. Only a handful of thin-and-light laptops with Core i5 and Core i7 chips will be available initially. A previous leak showed the Core Ultra 7 155H performing on par with a Core i7-13700H.

Most of them will not feature a dGPU and instead leverage the new tile-based Iris Xe iGPU with 128 EUs. The leaker adds that review embargoes for Meteor Lake laptops will end on December 14. For now, Intel plans to compare Meteor Lake with Raptor Lake-H (Core i9-13900H) and Phoenix-HS (Ryzen 7 7840HS) equivalents. That said, it’ll be interesting to see how they fare against some lower-end parts like the Core i5-13500HX.
